Our Training Philosophy

FOUNDATION: Our Training philosophy comes from a 3 step plan with 2 types of training mixed together. We combine CLA with RBA(SEE BELOW). Within these types of training, we go in order by 1. Teaching 2. Repping 3. Applying. This allows us to not skip steps in the development process. Each player’s process is unique and different at all levels of the game. We cannot apply without repetition, we cannot rep without understanding what is taught, otherwise we will rep skill concepts the wrong way.

  1. CLA: Constraint Led Approach: A training method that uses limitations to guide players toward problem-solving and adaptation instead of direct instruction. By setting rules, modifying the space, or altering the task, coaches create game-like scenarios that force players to self-organize and find their own effective movement solutions. 

  2. RBA: Rep Based Approach: This approach comes from my 3-step plan… Teach, rep, then apply. This approach comes from a straightforward way of thinking-repping something over and over until we get it right! CLA cannot be applied in training without the right foundation of repping the basics. Also, repeated repetition of the basics is extremely important even if you are highly skilled in all areas of the game.

Nov 1-15

Week 1-2

Nov 1-7: 

  • Handle Focus: Ball Control

  • Shooting Focus: Locked Wrist/Tight Elbows. Pin down reps

  • Concept Focus: Attacking Closeouts

Nov 8-15:

  • Handle Focus: Ball/Foot timing

  • Shooting Focus: Body/Release timing. Playing out of the corner reps

  • Concept Focus: Not settling/getting downhill

Nov 16-29

Week 3-4

Nov 16-22: 

  • Handle Focus: Rhythm/Wide Base

  • Shooting Focus: Balance/1-2 Footwork. Reps of different Pull-ups

  • Concept Focus: Reading Helpside

Nov 23-29:

  • Handle Focus: Dribbling through contact

  • Shooting Focus: Balance/2 foot footwork. Shots off DHO’s/Ball Screens

  • Concept Focus: Reading the Ball Screen/DHO

Nov 30-Dec 12

Week 5-6

Nov 30-Dec 5:

  • Handle Focus: Shifting Defenders

  • Shooting Focus: Stable Upper Body. Mastering the Ghost/Slip options

  • Concept Focus: Reads as a Screener

 

Dec 6-12:

  • Handle Focus: Staying in our line

  • Shooting Focus: Mastering Hip power. Shooting while tired reps

  • Concept Focus: repeated game actions at game speed

Dec 13-Jan 2

Week 7-8(Christmas week off)

Dec 13-19:

  • Handle Focus: Ball Control with Go’s/Stops

  • Shooting Focus: Pickups. Spot Shooting reps with cardio

  • Concept Focus: repeated game actions at game speed

Dec 20-26

  • OFF

Dec 27-Jan 2

  • Handle Focus: Rep the basics

  • Shooting Focus: Getting to our spots/getting back in shape

  • Concept Focus: Constant Movement off the ball/getting back in shape
