Incorporating faith and hoops

What was the original purpose of Basketball?

Dr. James Naismith created the game we know as basketball in 1891 as a way to develop the mind, body, and spirit, through Christian values at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Bringing the game back to it's roots

At LC Skills Academy, we want to use basketball not only to develop disciplined, successful, and productive basketball players, but also to point to Jesus Christ and his unique love for us. Dr. Naismith was quoted by saying he created the game to "win men for the master", and referred to basketball as "muscular Christianity". Our academy will have a consistent reverence for hoops that points to its original design!

Coach Luke's vision/faith statment

The pillar word of LC Skills Academy is "intentionality". That starts with being intentional with our skill development program, in order to ensure that each player that comes through here walks out a better basketball player. This will  never change within my vision. The addition to that is incorporating Godly values into the multitude of influence I have in my career path. Basketball coaches are not just coaches or trainers, they are mentors, whether they intend to be or not, they are. With this understanding, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ commands me to be an intentional leader who takes his influence, whether small or large, intimately serious. I now feel very unempowered by doing some basketball workouts and sprinkling in some Jesus here and there. If that is all I do with this academy, I have not achieved the correct goal. I intend for all client's whether long term or short term, to see the heart of the Lord on my character, and be positively influenced in their experience at LC Skills Academy.

With Love, Coach Luke
